My DS Bubbies (7 years) and I have had a small fairy garden in the works for a few years.  We have finally decided to add houses and DS Super (2 years) wanted to join in on the fun. Super picked out these bird houses last month when we were at Michael's for him and his brother.

Bubbies was given the Castle and Super kept the Light House.  Super choose pink and I added the purple for a bit more contrast and color. He had fun painting his light house and even painted the inside.

I’m sorry I didn’t think to take pictures before or during the planning and cutting process.  I used a pencil to draw out the bottom shape of the doors. I did draw the door all the way to the bottom of the bird house.  The door seemed too big for the small house, so I shortened it and now we can add little steps.  I used my Husband's Dremel to cut both doors.  For the castle I used 2 red cutting discs to cut the door out. The light house walls were thicker and I didn't think the cutting discs would work as well.  I thought using a drill to remove as much material as possible would be the easiest way to cut the door out. I then tried to use another cutting disc to remove excess wood from the entry way but I was cutting into the surrounding walls and didn’t want that. So out came my trusty X-cato knife and it worked like a charm to shave away excess wood.  I then sanded each entry way until they were smooth.

I also have a small pond, bird house, and light in the works.
